Mexico is a country of diversity that welcomed me with open arms.
Swans
The Esquimalt Lagoon is between the open ocean and Royal Roads University campus – the former military college. Coburg Peninsula a 2-kilometre-long spit of land made of sand and silt that forms the seaward border of the lagoon.
The spit was used as a rifle range during the 1800s, a sawmill operated between 1863 – 1871 and until 2008 was a place where people congregated to on hot summer evenings to enjoy large beach fires.
It is now much quieter since it is one of B.C.’s seven federal migratory bird sanctuaries. Swans and many other species of waterfowl, eagles, osprey, bufflehead, migrate through but several mute swans and a lonely trumpeter swan make the lagoon their year round home.
Over the past several years I have taken numerous photos of the elegant swans at all times of the year. I hope you enjoy the photos of these lovely creatures.
